DUKE NUKEM FOREVER SPECS?
Just like London buses, we wait ages for absolutely anything on Duke Nukem Forever, and then suddenly two pieces of info arrive at once..
14:51 Somewhere, way out there in the cosmos, along with E.T. (he's real you know), lurks Duke Nukem Forever - and probably Elvis as well. And we'd love to talk at length about such a wondrous cosmic sandwich, but it's the filling that we're most interested in.
Yes, the mysteriously silent DNF, which has been on the cards for years and years, is still one PC title that we're desperate for news on. So three cheers for 3D Realms' George Broussard, who has recently tantalised us with expected system spec information.
Having already revealed that part of the delay of Duke's next outing has resulted from engine switches and "mistakes" that have been made along the way (as reported yesterday), Broussard, in a forum post, has dangled further information before our eyes.
This time it's in regard to the expected system specs that, in his own words, are "going to be steep". That sounds suspiciously like your PC is going to be forced to do a bit of hill climbing before it can run the 3D Realms shooter at an acceptable framerate.
According to Broussard, we're going to require a video card "with pixel shaders", with GeForce 3 being an expected minimum, us needing ideally "something like the latest ATI or nVidia card."
For those quaking in boots at the thought of breaking the bank balance, he goes on to say that Duke Nukem Forever will run on a GeForce 1 or 2, but (as big a "but" as they come) apparently "you're not going to want to [do that]." As far as CPUs go, it seems that anything less than 2Ghz will struggle. Yikes! Looks like the bank might have to break after all.
However, "Do not buy hardware for the game now," warns George Broussard. "Wait until it's done and see where things are then." We suggest you adhere to these words of wisdom.
So then, when will Duke Nukem Forever be "done"? Well, we'll let big George answer than one: "When it's done. Simple as that. Also, ignore all release dates unless you hear them from us. This includes EB, Amazon or anywhere else. We will tell you when it's getting really close, and we will tell you when it's done. We promise."
More news on Duke Nukem Forever in 2004. In the meantime you can check out George Broussard's full forum post here.
